The department of geomagnetic and geoelectric consists of: a-Geomagnetic laboratory. b-Geoelectric and geothermic laboratory. Department of Geomagnetic and Geoelectric NRIAG Managing Waveform Data and Related Metadata for Seismic Networks November 8-17, 2009 Helwan, Cairo, Egypt
1st: Laboratory of Geomagnetism NRIAG • Geomagnetism is one of the oldest specialties of NRIAG. Since the establishment of the Institute in 1903 magnetic field recording has been continuously carried out at Helwan. Nowadays the activities of the laboratory of geomagnetism have been widely expanded and developed. The fields of researches at the laboratory are currently classified into 4 main branches: • - Magnetic and Magnetotelluric surveys • - Magnetic Observatory • - Rockmagnetism • Magnetic Archeoprospection Managing Waveform Data and Related Metadata for Seismic Networks November 8-17, 2009 Helwan, Cairo, Egypt
2nd : Geoelectric and Geothermic Laboratory NRIAG A)- Some of the scientific activities of geoelectric and geothermic laboratory 1- Using the Geoelectrical methods to detect the main under-groundwater reservoirs and water-bearing formations in order to use them in the development of new communities and new building constructions and to detect the suitable areas for the borehole drilling and distribute them on the suitable areas for human using and agriculture purposes according to known topographic maps. 2- Undertaking of geoelectrical field surveys in many areas with economical and structural importance for example, Wadi Feiran and Wadi El-Arish in Sinai, new Beni-Suef city, hot springs in Baharyia Oasis, Hammam Faraoun, Ayun Musa in Sinai and west of Naser lake area, Aswan. Managing Waveform Data and Related Metadata for Seismic Networks November 8-17, 2009 Helwan, Cairo, Egypt
3- Geoelectrical and GPR surveys in some archaeological places with the aim of their protection from under-groundwater and prospection for the buried ones; for example in the Sphinx and pyramids plateau area, Giza, Tell-El-Balamoun and Tell- El- Roubaa in Dakahlia as research projects and scientific researches (Master and Doctor degrees). 4- Geoelectrical surveys in areas of strategically and nationality importance as Wadi Hof caves, Mokattom plateau and El-Bahr El-Aazam street in Giza under the purpose of their protection from damage and the under- groundwater effect. 5- Undertaking some geothermal measurements in boreholes for studying the earth interior and geothermal active areas and their relations with disasters like earthquakes and volcanic eruptions in addition to search for geothermal active areas and how to use them as a source of energy. 6-Contribution in some international projects for studying the temperature distributions in the north of Africa. 7- Doing applied research projects in the field of the laboratory activities. 8- Giving scient ific consultations in geoelectrical field to some Egyptian companies and agencies. 9- Preparing the specified scientific staff to fulfill their studies either in the country or abroad concentrating on the new research branches, which are necessary for the studies, which are done by the laboratory projects
