2. The Volkswagen Group – A global perspective. The Volkswagen Group is the 3rd largest automaker in the world, and the number one brand in Europe. Volkswagen is also the number one brand with customers in the high-growth markets of China and Brazil.
In the first quarter of 2009, the Volkswagen Group’s global market share increased to 11% despite the continuing difficult situation on automobile markets.
In 2008 the Volkswagen Group’s sales revenue grew 4.5% to EUR 113.8 billion. Volkswagen of America’s total sales for 2008 were 223,128 units, a decrease of 3.2% versus a the total industry decline of 18%.
In the first quarter of 2009, the Volkswagen Group generated an operating profit and increased its liquidity.
The Volkswagen Group’s product range now comprises more than 130 vehicles that emit less than 140g/km of CO2.
With its ten brands and young model range, the Volkswagen Group is well-positioned to continue to grow global market share.
In 2009, the individual brands will again introduce new and low-consumption models that will further extend the Group’s product portfolio and cover new market segments.

As only one of two foreign automakers currently developing a new manufacturing facility here in the U.S.; Volkswagen’s new manufacturing facility is creating 2,000 direct and approximately 9,500 indirect jobs.
