This experiment demonstrates the effectiveness of using peg word systems for memorization by assigning items on a shopping list to corresponding peg words.

  2. Instructions • I am going to divide the class into thirds. Each third will be given a peg word system. • Copy down your peg word system and commit it to memory.

  9. Instructions • Everyone memorize your peg word system.

  10. Instructions • Now we’re going to get your shopping list. Use your peg word system to learn the list. • For each item on the list, use the corresponding item in the peg word system (one with the first, etc.). Imagine the peg word item interacting with the item on the list, the more bizarre the better.
