Problems and Challenges • Some groups are more likely confused or not easy to separate. • Some groups might be moved to other place. .
Some activities are more likely confused • Domestic work Vs. Primary production activities in yard • Training and studies in relation to work in the formal sector Vs. Career /professional development training and studies • Purchase goods for household agriculture production or Purchase goods for final consumptions • Medicare activities under Category “Personal Care and Maintenance” Vs. Purchase paid services like Visiting doctors, Beauty centre. • “Rest ” Vs. “Waiting for somebody” Vs. “Keep Watching the house ” • “Surfing internet” Vs. “Working online”, “Studying online”,”Writing or sending email”.
Some groups might be better to move to other place according to China TUS. • 1. Planting trees in yard was placed in the division of Primary Production Activity in ICATUS. But it is not suitable when we code planting greenery in balcony. • 2. “Collecting water” and “Heating water” should be treated as Primary Production Activities according to ICATUS. But these activities usually are the fore activities for some domestic work in China. They are likely treated as unpaid domestic work in China. • 3.”Window shopping” is some kinds of entertainment for some young people. According to ICATUS, it is treated as purchase goods or services under division of “Purchase Goods or Services”. But there are more similarities with entertainment like “driving for pleasant”. • 4. Religious activities should be treated differently.
Conclusion • ICATUS can be used as a standard classification of all activities that general population may spend time on during the 24hours of a day. • It provides a framework to make analysis on SNA and non-SNA production activities, paid and unpaid work and free time from a gender perspective. • It try to combine the different needs from developed countries and developing countries to make it possible for the international comparison. • It still needs to be revised and adjusted for the increased needs and new applications.
