Respiratory Lab Chapter 14
Ventral View of Respiratory System in situ • Label: Larynx, Trachea, Right and Left Primary Bronchi, Rt. And Lf. Cardiac Lobe, Rt. And Lf. Diaphragmatic Lobes, Rt. Apical Lobe, Rt. Intermediate Lobe, and the Diaphragm.
System Removal • Identify the most cranial portion of the Larynx. Cut the larynx and pull it away from the thoracic cavity very carefully. • Identify the esophagus and pull it away from the air passages as you carefully remove the respiratory system. • Draw a dorsal view of the removed system labeling all structures you can see.
Structure Dissections: • Lungs: with a probe or forceps scrape away some of the lung material until you can see some of the bronchial tree. Sketch this below your drawing of the ventral system. Label it the lung (detail). • Trachea: cut open the trachea and observe the organization. Write some notes below your dorsal drawing. • Larynx: observe the epiglottis. Draw it at the top of the larynx and esophagus and label all three pieces. • Dissect the Larynx. Observe the organization and write notes below the dorsal drawing.
