  1. Energy Transfer in EcosystemsLily Dancy-Jones, UNC Asheville Objective: To explain the transfer of energy in ecosystems and the concepts of food chains, food webs, and trophic levels through a short film. Prior experience: None.

  2. NCSCOS Objectives Addressed: HighschoolBiology 5.02 • Analyze the flow of energy and the cycling of matter in the ecosystem.Relationship of the carbon cycle to photosynthesis and respiration. • Trophic levels - direction and efficiency of energy transfer. • Analyze food chains, food webs, and energy pyramids for direction and efficiency of energy transfer. Middle School - 8th Grade 3.04 • Describe how terrestrial and aquatic food webs are interconnected.    - • Food webs share similar properties. • Food webs are highly connected and easily disturbed • Food webs interact with one another • The level of toxins in an organism can be increased up the levels of a food web causing biomagnification.

  3. Methods Windows Movie Maker, Digital Camera, Paint, Microsoft Office ClipArt, Powerpoint Converter Stop animation, Paint animation, and PowerPoint animation conversion, with voice-over narration Vocabulary words are emphasized by appearing on screen Evaluation questions at the end reinforce learning. Basic concepts and vocabulary research in a variety of Middle and High School textbooks to correspond to NCSCOS

  4. Challenges and Reflections Free PowerPoint conversion software had limitations Timing narration to fit the pace of the film is hard! You can do it too!
