Communication • Students will demonstrate an ability to interact with others through reading, writing, and oral communication resulting in understanding and being understood. • Reading and Writing assessed each semester using ETS Proficiency Profile starting in Spring 2012. • Interpretation of meaning of key terms • Recognition of actual material • Appropriate transition words • Incorrect word choice • Agreement among basic grammatical elements • Oral Communication – assessed using STAGE beginning Fall 2012.
Critical Thinking • Students will demonstrate critical thinking by evaluating evidence and applying reasoning to decide how to think and act • Assessed each semester using ETS Proficiency Profile starting in Spring 2012 • Examples of skills assessed include evaluation of competing casual explanations • Determination of relevance of information for evaluating an argument or conclusion • Evaluation of data for consistency with known facts, hypotheses or methods
Cultural and Social Understanding • Students will demonstrate an awareness, understanding and appreciation of the interconnectedness of the social and cultural dimensions within and across local, regional, state, national, and global communities • Assessed each semester using ETS Proficiency Profile starting in Spring 2012 which assesses humanities and social sciences within the content of the reading and critical thinking questions • STAGE starting in Fall 2012
Information Literacy • Students will demonstrate information literacy by knowing how and where to search for information and how to apply the information once found • Assessed Spring 2012 using Madison Assessments • Determination of the nature and extent of the information needed • Access needed information effectively and efficiently
Personal Development • Students will demonstrate personal development by displaying the ability to set goals to form personal, academic, and vocational development. • STAGE starting in Fall 2012
Quantitative Reasoning • Students will be able to apply mathematical tools to the solution of complex problems • Assessed each semester using ETS Proficiency Profile starting in Spring 2012 • Madison Assessment Spring 2009 • Recognizing and interpreting mathematical terms • Reading and interpreting tables and graphs • Evaluating formulas
Scientific Reasoning • Students will be able to understand the process of planning, executing and interpreting an experiment following the tenets of the scientific method • Assessed Spring 2011 using Madison Assessments • Generating an empirically evidenced and logical argument • Distinguishing a scientific argument from a non-scientific argument
