Meeting Challenge #1 Math • Restructuring the Math Curriculum at VWHS • Elimination of Math 1 & Math 2 courses • New approach of Algebra and Geometry taught over 3 semesters to ensure SUCCESS! • Allowing teachers more one-on-one time with students

VWHS…Following the HSTW modelof High-Level Literacy Programs • Write weekly in all classes. • Use literacy strategies in all classes to enhance learning. • Students will write research papers in all classes / or No-Research papers • Students will complete a rigorous language arts curriculum—college prep, honors, AP English classes.

Challenge #3…Implementing an Advisement Program • PAWS program (Pause And Work Support) VWHS has implemented a PAWS program. This is a time from 11:20 – 11:53 every day where all students are in their advisory rooms and have a guided study time..

Challenge #4Addressing the issue of Freshmen Transition… • VWHS has adopted a freshmen-teacher strategy of working with parents, administrators, guidance counselors, and the students to create strategies to ensure student homework is completed regularly and timely.
