  2. Festivals/Ceremonies Chinese festivals and ceremonies are a great way to celebrate the new year and more. Chinese festivals like Chinese New Year, the Lantern festival, the mid autumn festival, and the Dragon Boat Festival are some of the best.

  3. Chinese New Year Chinese New Year celebrates the 1st lunar month. People give red envelopes that symbol good luck. They also set off fire works to scare away evil spirits. To decorate for the new year they put paper cut outs on the window. Everyone tries to get together for the new year. People dress their best, and watch parades and dancing. Chinese New Year is also known as the spring festival, it ends after a full week and takes place in January or February. It is one of the 4 most traditional festivals.

  4. The Lantern Festival The Lantern festival is one of the most traditional festivals. Falling on the 15th day of the first lunar calendar month. People hang up lanterns on the night of the festival. The lanterns can break darkness and bring hope to people.

  5. The Mid Autumn Festival The Mid Autumn Festival is also one of the 4 most traditional festivals. In the Mid Autumn Festival people moon-watch to see when the moon is round, bright, and full. The moon symbolizes family. The traditional food to eat at the festival is moon cake. It is celebrated in mid September the 8th lunar month.

  6. The Dragon Boat Festival In the Dragon Boat Festival people race boats that look like a dragon. The Dragon Boat Festival is one of the 4 most traditional festivals. It also has one of the longest history. It is celebrated in southern China. People also like to gaze at it.

  7. Dragon Boat History A man named Qu Yuan ended his life by throwing himself into the Miluo River. People wanted to give him proper funeral so they set off boats and threw rice dumplings into the river to distract his death while they searched for him. Today people race 89 feet long boats and it takes 70 people to row it.
