  1. America continues to grow Westward Expansion

A Frontier • Is the land that forms the farthest extent of a nations settled regions. • Many early Americans believed the frontier to be between the Appalachians and the Mississippi River. • By the 1820’s much of this land that made up this area was settled. • So there was a need to push beyond the Mississippi River.

  3. Manifest Destiny • A belief in the right of America to expand to the Pacific Ocean. • From the beginning, Americans had been interested in westward expansion • Examples include: • The Louisiana Purchase • Acquiring Florida from Spain • As the population grew so did the resolve to achieve Manifest Destiny
