2. MOTIVATION • Engine company operations make up a large portion of the daily tasks we face on a routine basis. Engine placement and a proper hand line deployment is the foundation for a successful operation.

3. OBJECTIVE • The student will have an understanding of the riding positions associated with the engine company and how engine company operations are applied on the fire ground.

15. FIRE BEHAVIOR • Incipient Stage • Heat/smoke light • Approach close • Full flow not required • Directly apply stream on burning material

20. HOSELINE SELECTION • How long a line? • Stretch Short • Get pinned down • Unable to advance • Fill-in with 2 1/2” or 3” to 1 3/4” high rise hose

21. HOSELINE SELECTION • Over stretch • Kinks • Extra weight • Rule of thumb • Add length + depth of building • Add 50’ for each additional floor • Add distance from pump to building

28. OFFENSIVE ATTACK • Constantly Move Forward • Stretch dry to safe area • Front door-- landing • Stairwell • Floor below • Door to basement- Do not descend dry • Future actions hinge on this task • Back-up line-- second engine

29. TEAMWORK • Nozzle Position • Hit High • Sweep in front • Control Position • Makes nozzle position easier • Reassure nozzle • Keep line low • Nozzle moves left-- Control moves right • Never push nozzle man ahead

30. TEAMWORK • Evaluate • Shut down • Look at effect of stream • Maintain Control • Observe conditions • Monitor advance • Be aware of members above fire (OV).
