The East Sweden Energy Agency An independent, not-for-profit organization that offer Broad competence in the energy sector The knowhow to lead and coordinate projects, both large and small Considerable experience of informing the public via campaigns and education Extensive networks, at the regional, national and international levels.
The region Östergötland in East Sweden • 13 municipalities • 427 000 inhabitants • 2 major cities (>100 000 inhabitants) • 350 major enterprises • 20 TWh energy consumption • 2000 lakes • 6000 islands in a extensive archipelago
Parliamentary decision 1999 »The overall aim is to hand over to the next generation a society in which the major environmental problems have been solved. « The basic principle is to integrate ecological, social and economic sustainability.
Towards a low carbon society The goal for Swedish energy and climate actions is to contribute to: the attainment of climate targets – 40 % reduction by 2020 the increased use of renewable energy – 50 % by 2020 more efficient energy use and – 20 % more efficient use 2020 the development of a more sustainable transport system – 10 % RE 2020
Decarbonising Sweden Estimated reduction between 1990 and 2020 (millions of tonnes) Greenhouse gases in carbon equivalents.
Regional energy and climate strategy • The energy and climate initiatives in Östergötlandare to: • build on the strengths of Östergötland • give due consideration to the regional environmental targets and conserve resources • create sustained regional growth and be a model to others • initiate research and development and apply knowledge.
Coordinatedenergyplanning in Östergötland • Spin-off from earlier projects on request from the local authorities in the region • Aim is that all municipalities will have a local energy plan by the end of 2010 • Trans-disciplinary project with expert support from the Linköping university. • Energy agency will take on coordination of actions
Coordinated activities for energy planning • Local present-state reports • Start-up and working meetings • Joint seminars and education of participants • Development of environmental assessment tool • Development of no-action scenarios • Workshops on visions and actions • Compilation of energy plans and actions for participation • Regional assessment of actions and future projects
Action plan for energy efficiency • Promotion of local and regional actions • Promotion of more information and advice • Voluntary contracts for municipalities & county councils • Subsidies for energy analysis in companies/industry • Promotion of public procurement of energy efficient products • Demand for individual measurements of electricity and hotwater
