The Secret to Life CHOICES
Three R’s of Success RESPONSIBILITY RELIABILITY RESPECT
Responsibility • My responsibility as a teacher is to help you learn. • Your responsibility is to learn to the best of your ability. • Make no excuses, accept the results of your actions (or lack of actions). • You have the right to succeed, but you also have the opportunity to fail.
Reliability Do what is expected of you. • Be ready to learn. • Try to do what you are asked to do. • Have all required materials out on your desk and be seated when I walk through the door.
Respect Respect is extremely important. • Respect each other. • Respect yourself. • Respect the school and my room.
Respect • Courtesy works wonders. • Please say “yes” instead of “yeah.” • Don’t tell anyone to “Shut Up.” • Don’t use the “R” word. • My name is Mr. Brown, not “Dude.”
Class Expectations • Take care of your personal business prior to class starting. • There will be no personal grooming in class (to include brushing hair, applying make-up, and use of colognes or perfumes). • Participation is expected, but please raise your hand if you have something to say (DO NOT BLURT OUT). • There will be no eating (candy or gum) or drinking in my class.
Grading Standards Everything that you do in my class will receive a grade. Assessments 40 percent Assignments 30 percent Projects 20 percent SAE (*) 10 percent (*) – Subject Area Exam – every nine weeks
Administrative Actions • I maintain discipline files on those students whose behavior needs special attention. • Your parents/guardians will be contacted if there is a need to inform them of any situation at school. • I write referrals only when situations arise that need further attention (action). • You are permitted to be tardy three times during any one grading term --- you will receive a referral upon the fourth time. If you are going to be late, have a pass.
Class Assignments • All of your assignments will be due on a specific date. I will not accept late work, unless you have a legitimate excuse. • I will not be giving you any extra credit opportunities. You should be able to pass my class with doing the work that is assigned to you. • You need to take responsibilities for your academic performance.
Q&A Do you have any questions at this time?
A Final Comment I dislike it when students are rude and don’t conduct themselves in the appropriate manner. Please don’t complain and whine about things that you can’t change. Changes those things that you can. Propose possible solutions.
The only attitude that is wanted in my class is aPOSITIVEattitude.
