OUR CHARITY • Helps homeless, addicts and other people with special needs • Was founded 100 years ago • Is run by 400 employees and 8000 volunteers • Works in the streets • Works in the media • Collaboration with local and national political authorities - We give voice to those, who are seldom heard
WHAT WE DO (2ND HAND MARKET) WE: • Have been selling 2nd hand goods since 1973 • Run a chain of 240 shops nationwide • Sold 2nd hand goods for 109,6 mio. DKK in 2012 • Provide 10-20 % yearly growth rates • Handled an estimated 5.000 tons of 2nd hand clothes in 2012
WHAT WE GIVE TO SOCIETY • Our sales fund food, shelter aso. for homeless people and others in need • We gear public investments with private funds • We provide an environmentally safe alternative free of charge
THE ”SAY/DO” DISCREPANCY What consumers say and what they actually do: • Organic shopping • Volunteering • Work hours • Consumer self image / real actions • Don’t always trust what the studies say! Why 2nd hand shopping works: Social and environmental consciousness – PLUS cheap and easy
WHY WE DONT COMPETE WITH FASHION Roughly 3 groups of customers • ”Treasure-hunters” • Can’t/won’t pay for new goods • Political consumers These groups are not likely to be buying new fashion items at full price
