  1. DELTA PROJECT NEWSLETTER 5th Project Meeting GIRONA, March 7-8, 2013 PARTNERS The 5th DELTA meeting was held in Girona in March 2013. The touristic area of Girona The Espiral team choose Llafranc (Costa Brava) for the meeting venue, as project partners come from inland EU. Challenging weather conditions, partners visited Empúries and the ruins of its Greek haven. In Girona, we visited the Centre Civic Sta. Eugènia and were introduced to city’s Adult Education system and Espai Marfà, the newest cultural arts and music centre. We also visited the Cinema Museum, set up by the city in 1998, with wide national and international recognition, and the old town with its relevant Jewish quarter, and kissed the lioness… a passport to come back to Girona soon! Media-based adult learning, the project subject in Girona A videoconferencing tool for services provision to people with special needs, ageing, eHealth, eLearning (LL) has been tested and was presented in the meeting by the local team as a system designed by the University of Girona, partnering with Espiral in social projects. The system (VITAM), is being tested in eHealth/Social Services scenarios. An experiment was made with DELTA partners and adult learners in April 2013 with English learning purposes. The education system and the role of Lifelong Learning Joan Manuel del Pozo, UdG professor, shared his knowledge to partners in a presentation on Catalonia and Spain past and present of Education, addressing the formal /non-formal education role and values in the current society needs, along with cultural past and present of the Catalan region. According to Professor del Pozo, Lifelong Learning is the main guarantee of the democrazy in our social system. Equality, information access and comprehension abilities are crutial to inclussion and participation. Society is now ready to take the lead of its life, to manage its own future in a more direct way.
