Rice in Mozambique Rice Area= 200,000ha Rice Production = 220,000 t Rice consumption =550,000 t Imports =330,000t (60%) Consumption 23kg/head Environments - Rainfed = 97% (0.8 -1.2t/ha) - Irrigated = 3% (2.5 - 3.0t/ha)

Socio Economic Study in Mozambique Case Survey (CS) 2007 Chokwe irrigation scheme Extensive Survey (ES) 2008-09 9 districts in 2 major rice producing provinces: Zambézia and Sofala province Jointly conducted w/ TIA2008 (a nation wide ag. HH survey) Second round survey of CS and ES in 2011-12 (on-going)
