  2. The Origin Of元宝（Yuán Bǎo） • “元宝”（yuán bǎo） is a kind of money from the ancient “唐代”（tángdài）（Tang dynasty）. • People back then used to carve the characters “元宝”on a coin.

  3. This coin is called “孔方兄”（kǒng fāng xiōng） 寶 元

  4. Nowadays, Chinese people often display “元宝”（yuán bǎo）at Chinese New Year. • Square and oval shapes are common. • Chinese people use “元宝”（yuán bǎo） as a symbol of making big fortune and bringing good luck.

  5. 材料（cái liào）（Material） • 元宝纸一张（a piece of yuán bǎo paper）

  6. Tips • When you do it, there are some golden powder attached on your hands. • Never put your fingers into your mouth. • Please go and wash your hands. Come back immediately after you’ve washed your hands.

  7. 1.Fold into a triangle.

  8. 2.Fold once more.

  9. 3.Reopen it.

  10. 4.Fold inwards to match the central line.

  11. 5.Repeat the same step on the other side.

  12. 6.Open up one side and fold upwards into a diamond shape.Same on the other side.

  13. 7.Fold one-third of the diamond inwards.Same on the other side.

  14. 8.Turn it over. Fold inwards to match the central line. Same on the other side.

  15. 9-10.Fold downwards.

  16. 11.Fold the edge inwards.

  17. 12.Same on the other side.

  18. 13-14.Put your fingers beneath the Yuán Bǎo and push outwards to make it into an ark shape.
