  1. The Learning Road By: Diana E. Restrepo Chaur

  2. Path of Learning I chose this personal picture of one of the paths from Fish Creek Park, Calgary because it makes me think that learning is like a path that we are making every day. We decide how fast we want to go since the day we are born, because learning is our own choice. Teachers, tutors, parents, friends are just more experienced learners on their way that have decided to make some stops to guide others in their walk. Learning might not be easy and on the way you might find challenges but the beauty of learning is that you overcome the difficulties or find shortcuts to continue the journey. Because Learning never stops. • Restrepo, D. (2010). Path in Fish Creek. [Photograph].

  3. I photographed this sculpture at CrossIron Mills Mall, Calgary, and it represents changing timesto me. On the learning road, we change and the path changes too. Throughout the years, many philosophers, psychologists and scientists from different disciplines have tried to decipher how the humans learn. In the clocks, the gears are engrained to mark the endless time; in similar way, the brain, as the most brilliant creation, is engrained in a mysterious way to learn. • Restrepo, D. (2013). 4. I am capable, I can do it, Just let me show you how I do it. Gardner’s Intelligences are to take into account when designing lessons. All the students must be granted the opportunity to learn as it is best for them and demonstrate their abilities to feel success. • Restrepo, D. (2008). My children. [Photograph].

  5. Choices One's philosophy is not best expressed in words; it is expressed in the choices one makes... and the choices we make are ultimately our responsibility. The path in the new millennium has new turns. Those shifts are filled with challenges and opportunities for the teacher to guide children to make ethically and responsible choices towards themselves and the others to become cosmopolitan in the 21st century. 6. Dual Text Orjuela, S. (2012). No More April Fools. Calgary. This piece has significant value to me. It was created by my son on his free time last year. I support maintenance of heritage languages as well as the development of English. I strongly believe that incorporating the culture into the classroom has significant gains in the acquisition of a language. I see it on my son who is currently learning his third language: French. Please, click to read the book.

  7. Orjuela, D. (2013). Image Design Love I chose this Bible verse because I believe that teachers need to be passionate about what they do and love the students in the process. As Vila (n.d.) stated: “A teacher must love… Love leads the teacher to care about the well being of her students; this measure…lead to atonement between the teacher, her students and the world they are engaging” Vila, H. (n.d.)The ecology of teaching: Breaking out of the factory model.  Community Works Journal.  Retrieved from http://www.communityworksinstitute.org/cwjonline/essays/a_essaystext/vila_ecology.html

  8. Multiculturalism To create a more sensible and tolerant world, educators need to teach appreciation for others’ cultures and traditions as well as celebrate diversity and differences in the classroom. The path of learning is more enjoyable when others participate and contribute their skills and funds of knowledge. • Fitch, I. J. (2010). All Canadians Share a Page in Canada’s History. Northeast Kings Education Centre (Canning, Nova Scotia) [Artwork]. 9. Rajendran, A. (2013, August 27). An Inspirational Teacher or Teaddy’s Teacher. [Video file]. Retrieved from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJOYAIL9UVg I chose this inspirational story since I dream to leave a memory on each student in my class. I dream that one day my students will look back on their path of learning and will remember the positive impact I left on them as I gratefully remember my ESL teachers . Please play to watch

  10. Skills for the 21st Century This illustration represents the bond between the 20th and 21st centuries. I believe that you cannot forget the past and cannot avoid the future. However, teachershave the power to change the future. Teachers just need to provide the students with the necessary tools and support them to develop skills to continue their path of learning. • Gorman, M (2013). Digital2. [Image].
