Figuring Out Extra Hours • Determine which type of contract you have: • 12 hours = 180 semester hours teaching • 15 hours = 225 semester hours teaching • 18 hours = 270 semester hours teaching • Add the total number of semester hours you are teaching • Academic courses are 60 hours (BEI = 90 hr) • Conversation courses are 30 hours • Some special courses are 45 or 60 hours
Extra Hours (cont.) • Any hours over your contracted number (180, 225, or 270) are extra hours and you can claim Overtime pay by filling in the Extra Time Formavailable in the IELE offices
Weekly Hours Worked • Divide the total semester hours by 15 weeks to get your weekly hours • Examples: • 180 hours/15 wks = 12 hours/week • 240 hours/15 wks = 16 hours/week • 270 hours/15 wks = 18 hours/week • 300 hours/15 wks = 20 hours/week
Professionalism • Dress • Dress professionally on campus • Off campus—remember you are part of the faculty of AU • Behavior • Romantic relationships with students are off limits • Do not consume alcohol, etc. in the presence of students • Remember—people are watching and recording
TEAMWORK • Help each other out • Look out for each other • Share good ideas • We are all on the same team
