  2. Have you ever heard yourself say . . . I can't find my . . . notes, homework, old quizzes . . . I can't remember what we did in class yesterday. I'm sure its in . . . my locker . . . my book bag . . . my room . . . I was absent last week, did I miss anything?

  3. TAB and TINA will help you. TAB and TINA are your friends. TAB and TINA will help you stay organized and prepared for class . TINA will help you think about math. TINA is your study buddy. TINA will help you pass quizzes and tests.

  4. All about TAB TAB is an acronym for The Algebra Binder. It contains: • *Warm-ups • *Homework • *Daily Work • *Assessments • *Workbook

  5. Organizing TAB You will use a 1 – 1 ½ inch binder for TAB. In TAB you will have accessories which include: practice workbook graph paper loose leaf paper dividers

  6. All about TINA TINA is an acronym for The Interactive Notebook for Algebra. TINA is • a personalized, clear textbook • A working portfolio -- all of your notes, classwork, reflections, etc. -- in one convenient spot • A spiral bound 1 subject notebook • Due by Friday!!

  7. Left Side – Right Side Orientation LEFT SIDE RIGHT SIDE Right side items are items from the teacher and text to be . . . . . . RECEIVED And Recorded Left side items contain the student’s . . . LEARNING Process

  8. Right Side • The right is for received information. • The right side belongs to Ms. Smith. • The right side has “testable” information.

  9. Examples of Ms. Smith’s Right Side Content • Notes • Handouts • Graphic organizers • Example problems worked out with written “running” commentary • Content to go on a math foldable

  10. Left Side • Left is for learning process! • The left side belongs to YOU! • The left side is where you record your PROCESSINGofthe teacher-provided notes, handouts, etc. (i.e. of the left side items).

  11. Examples of Student Left Side Work/Products • Guided practice • Graphic organizers • Foldables • Re-written notes in your language of learning (word, diagrams, illustrations, etc.)

  12. More Examples of Left Side Work/Products • Math journal entries (e.g. writing about real-world math or assigned practice work) • Creative math memory hooks (e.g. P.E.M.D.A.S) • Mental math models (e.g. a story about “Norm and the Donkey” to explain fraction components and division

  18. Student Supplies • Math textbook • TAB = One to one and one-half inch binder(math-class-only) • TINA =a spiral 1 subject notebook numbered in the upper outside corners (you will need 4 of these) • Colored Pencils

  19. Student Supplies Continued • Pencils • Hand held, covered pencil sharpener (must catch its own shavings) • Red grading pen • Scissors and glue sticks

  20. Maintaining TINA The Interactive Notebook for Algebra • Number the pages starting at number 1. (the 1st right hand page is 1). • DO NOT AT ANY TIME tear out complete or partial pages • Write your name and date on the first page of each assignment • Feel free to doodle or draw ONLY if it relates to the notes • Use colored pencils to enhance learning (using color to show each step is meaningful way to utilize color)

  21. Maintaining TINA continued The Interactive Notebook for Algebra • In the beginning of every unit, you will decorate one page for the particular unit we are covering. (Cover page for that unit) • Be sure to make it colorful, unique and it relates to the unit.

  24. On the Inside Cover First and Last Name Academic Period Ms. Smith, Math Write in the upper left hand corner of the cover. Write your name along the top of TINA in a dark marker.

  25. Page 1 will serve as your title page. Be creative and let the page represent you. • Guidelines: • Must cover entire page • Must use at least 4 colors • Drawings, computer art or cutouts are acceptable as long as the entire page is colorful.

  26. The next few pages will serve as samples pages. Paste everything you see AFTER this point into your notebook exactly as it is shown!
