  1. National Education Technology Plan 2010 EDIT 654 Janet Younge

  2. Century 21 (ISTE) • Creativity • Communication & Collaboration • Research • Critical Thinking and Problem Solving • Digital Citizenship • Technology Operation

  3. Education “Education is the key to America’s economic growth and prosperity and to our ability to compete in the global economy. It is the path to good jobs and higher earning power for Americans. It is necessary for our democracy to work.”

  4. Executive Summary • Technology must be embraced within our educational system to effective prepare our students to compete in the global economy. • Implement technology to match how students learn to personalize it which will motivate students to want to learn. • Bridge the gap between technology and teachers so that teachers can effectively use it

  5. Introduction I • If the education system can commit to change by embracing technology, it will help to transform education. • Create a plan where colleges partner with K-12 schools to put plans in place to decrease dropout rates and promote education. • Technology has been the driver of change throughout businesses and our lives; make it an important driver of change within schools.

  6. Learning: Engage & Empower • Learning is an ongoing process so students should be taught that and the different ways in which learning can take place. • People learn differently – Neuroscience has identified 3 types of learning: • Learning That • Learning How • Learning Why

  7. Learning: Engage & Empower cont’d • Use technological programs to teach content related procedures as well as learning strategies. • Use technology to stimulate and engage students to that they stay motivated and interested in learning. • Bridge the gap so that those that are at a disadvantage and/or cannot access and/or use technology can now use it

  8. Assessment: Measure What Matters • Use assessments to diagnose and change the conditions in which students learn • Incorporate peer instruction so that students can discuss/analyze with peer who think differently from themselves. • On-line assessments has the ability to gather and analyze more information than using manual methods.

  9. Assessment: Measure What Matters cont’d • Using technology to keep track of assessments allows one to see a students progress. • Parents will have the ability to see how their child is performing easily. • Online assessments allows a school or district administration to see how well the students are performing.

  10. Teaching: Prepare & Connect • Using technology can help us to better prepare our educators so that the technology that is incorporated into their curriculum brings the desired results. • Teacher collaboration can be used to allow teachers to communicate ideas with one another.

  11. Infrastructure: Access & Enable • Create/implement a technology infrastructure that will provide students, teachers and administrators with the tools and resources that is needed for 21st Century development. • Enable broadband within the schools. • Determining whether or not a students information should be stored on servers or within a cloud. • Establishing who will be responsible for providing technological support in schools.

  12. Productivity: Redesign & Transform • Examine the original infrastructure which led to the classroom structure and re-design it to reflect the changes and time we live in today. • Design and develop a system that can keep track of all of the schools data within 1 database. • Implement a tracking system to see how often technology is used and the difference it has made in the learning outcomes.

  13. Productivity: Redesign & Transform cont’d • Use technology to help keep students on track educationally by: • Extending days and/or times • Implement online learning • Use blogs • Find ways to keep students interested in learning to help to deter drop out rates.

  14. R&D: Innovate & Scale • Become leaders in the design and implementation to produce a more effective education system. • Create a project plan which will: • Identify key research and development challenges. • Establish best practices in learning technology • Hire the best minds and organizations to collaborate on high-risk/high-gain projects.

  15. R&D: Innovate & Scale cont’d • Have individual project teams communicate developments, progress and outcomes of projects. • Design a system that will integrate how one is learning and the levels of difficulty that may be encountered. • Create an assessment that will incorporate the 21st century ideas. • Design an assessment that will capture real time data so that students, parents and teachers can see and also allows one to determine if this technology is cost effective.
