Early Life Ben Saunders (Born Benjamin John Saunders) was born on August 5th 1997 in Plymouth, England. He then grew up in Devon and Kent. He went to school in the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He is a British polar explorer, motivational speaker and a endurance athlete. He now is 35 and is famous for skiing solo in the North Pole in 2004. He went to school in the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
Expedition Ben Saunders first went to the North Pole with Pen Hadow, they started in Siberia, Russia. But, on the second day, they were unfortunately attacked by a polar bear. He tried again this time solo and completed a 250km course to the North Pole from a Russian ice station. In spring 2004, he set out to make a solo crossing of the Arctic Ocean on foot during March 4th and finished the journey on 14th May 2004. He set out from Ward Hunt island, Canada, Ben went out solo and on foot but stopped after 8 hours due to a broken ski binding.
What next? • Ben Saunders in planning on going to the south pole on foot for 4 months (the Scott Antarctic expedition). It will be the longest polar expedition in history and repeating his speed record from March 2010.
