  1. Creekview High School Registration 2016-2017 CLASS OF 2020!!

  2. The Three R’s for High School • RIGOR– High standards for Academic Excellence • RELEVANCE– Connecting learning to real world experiences • RELATIONSHIPS– Teacher to Student , Teacher to Parent, Student to Student

  3. Scheduling Information • Seven periods per day each semester • All students take four core classes • Read 180 & STEP UP Algebra are classes that are designed for students that have traditionally struggled with math and reading. Based on assessment, placement made to the appropriate support.

  4. School Attendance • Attendance Requirements • 90% attendance requirement in all classes to receive credit (verified or unverified) • High School Hours • 8:20 a.m. to 3:35 p.m. • Bus schedules available online by August • After or before school practices for all athletics and UIL activities • Athletic practices for fall sports (football, volleyball) traditionally starts prior to school starting. Athletes will be contacted by the coach.

Success at the High School Level • Support system: 9th grade AP, Attendance Clerk, 2 counselors • Much lower failure rate due to the 9th grade initiative and student/teacher • Same expectations in core classes makes it easier for the students to be successful academically and behaviorally • Commonality leads to greater parent/staff cooperation and increased opportunities for students to be successful in all classes • Parent/teacher/student conferences help build success • Celebrate student success Achievement Celebration!

  6. HB 5 & Graduation • Provides more flexibility in the new graduation plan • Foundation High School Plan with Endorsements • Reduced the number of EOC exams to graduate

Foundation PLUS Endorsement(s)26 credits • 4 credits English • 4 credits Mathematics • 4 credits Science • 4 credits Social Studies* • 2 credits World Language or Computer Programming • 1 credit Physical Education • 1 credit Fine Arts • .5 Health • 5.5 credits in Electives – may include CTE or certification courses to satisfy endorsement requirement • *One locally required credit in Social Studies is included in the total of 4 Social Studies credits

Distinguished Level of Achievement26 credits • 4 credits English • 4 credits Mathematics – Algebra II must be one of the math credits • 4 credits Science • 4 credits Social Studies * • 2 credits World Language or Computer Programming • 1 credit Physical Education • 1 credit Fine Arts • .5 Health • 5.5 credits in Electives – may included CTE or certification courses to satisfy endorsement requirements • *One locally required credit in Social Studies is included in the total of 4 Social Studies credits.

Performance Acknowledgements • Dual Credit • 12 College Credit hours with a grade of 3.0 or higher, or • Bilingualism/Biliteracy • Complete all ELA requirements with a min GPA of 80 • And one of the following: • 3 credits in the same World Language with a min GPA of 80 • Pass Level 4 or higher World Language with a min GPA of 80 • 3 credits in World Language with a min GPA of 80 • AP World Language score 3.0 or higher • IB World Language score 4 or higher, or • ELL Student Only • Participate and meet exit criteria for a bilingual or ESL program • Scored Adv high Level on TELPAS, or • AP/IB • Score 4 or 5 on an AP Exam • Score 5 or above on an IB Exam (HL), or • College Entrance Exam • PSAT score of commended or higher • College Benchmark score on two out of four exams on the ACT • SAT 1250-Reading/Math combined • ACT score of 28 w/o Writing, or • Business Industry/Certification – Obtain a business or industry certification

Key Components of HB 5 • Beginning in the 2014-2015 school year, a school district must ensure that each student, on entering ninth grade, indicates an endorsement that the student intends to earn. The five endorsement areas are: • Arts and Humanities • Business and Industry • Multidisciplinary • Public Services • STEM

Endorsement(s) • Arts & Humanities: political science, world languages, cultural studies, history, fine arts • Business and Industry: agriculture, food and natural resources, architecture, Arts-AV Tech and Communications, Business management, finance, hospitality and tourism , information Technology, manufacturing, marketing, sales and service, transportation, distributions, and logistics • MultidisciplinaryStudies:Allows a student to select courses from the curriculum of each endorsement area and earn credits in a variety of advanced courses. • Public Services: Education and Training, government and public administration, human services, health science, law, public safety, and corrections and security • STEM: Science, environmental technology, computer science, engineering, advanced math

  12. What to Expect • Counselors will meet with each student to develop their Personal Graduation Plan (PGP). • The four year plan or PGP will be sent to parents for review and their signature. • Four year plans will be reviewed each year by counselors and students.

Graduation…it’s closer than you realize! • To graduate, students must satisfy graduation credit requirements and earn a satisfactory score LEVEL II on all of the EOC exams taken in each content areas: • English 1 ~ 9th grade • Algebra 1 ~ 9th grade • Biology ~ 9th grade • English 2 ~ 10th grade • U.S. History~ 11th grade

CFB…. meeting the Requirements • How do we help students to meet the graduations requirements? • Several high school classes are being offered at the middle school level. • C-FB is offering on-line courses via the V-Campus (Virtual Campus). • C-FB offers summer school classes for students that wish to earn high school credits.

Grade Advancement in High School • At the high school level, grade advancement is based on credit attainment….meaning that a student does not advance to the next grade level unless a certain number of credits have been earned. • Grade classification is based on the following: • Grade# of credits • 9th grade 0-5.5 • 10th grade 6-11.5 • 11th grade 12-18.5 • 12th grade 19-26

  18. Important points to consider: • Extracurricular activities when picking courses • Academic progress this year • Competitiveness of the University or college you wish to attend • The endorsement area you select • All classes will be signed for by the appropriate teacher.

  19. 9th Grade Course Selection Sheet • Courses requiring Audition or Try-Out: • Cheerleading • Athletic teams • After the Try-Out process is over, new member’s schedules will be changed reflecting placement in the appropriate period for the squad or team

  20. 9th Grade Course Selection Sheet • Athletics and Sports Teams • All sports will require a coach’s signature. Once the coach signs the course selection sheet, students may register for the appropriate class. All student interested in any athletic program will need to a physical completed. Anew medical physical is required in order to try-out/play. • Student athletes can participate in our band program. Directors & coaches work together to help students.

  21. 9th Grade Course Selection Sheet • Once the selection sheet is complete, parents MUST sign the course selection sheet indicating approval of the choices.

  22. Mustang Round-Up Night • All 8th graders and their parents are invited to come to Mustang Round-Upon February 22nd starting at 6:30 p.m. and ending at 8:00 p.m. • All high school departments will show case activities & programs • Meet the teachers & coaches that make CHS a great place!

  23. Pre-Ap Classes Guidelines • 8th graders should have a high level of reading/vocabulary skills. • A successful candidate will be inquisitive and creative who displays a high level of motivation for knowledge as well as grades and should have consistently high attendance and very good behavior. • A passing grade for all TAKS sections. • Successful students will have a good work ethic and an ability to complete tasks independently.
