Family Survey STARS Results FY 09-10. Family Survey. Surveys were sent out to families with a 3-month window for completing and sending them back. This provides an opportunity for families to provide their input into our programs. This is the first year STARS program is included.

Family Survey • Surveys were sent out to families with a 3-month window for completing and sending them back. • This provides an opportunity for families to provide their input into our programs. • This is the first year STARS program is included. • The survey contains 29 questions with a six point scale. • 1=Very Strongly Disagree • 2=Strongly Disagree • 3=Disagree • 4=Agree • 5=Strongly Agree • 6=Very Strongly Agree
Family Survey • 21,300 surveys were mailed to parents of children in Star 3 and Star 4 facilities • 7,013 surveys were returned • 33% return-rate higher than any other program • Highest return-rate: SCRK 36% • Lowest return-rate: SERK 31%
Family Survey • Put 29 Questions into 3 Categories: • Program Features • Supporting the Family/Child Relationship • Helping Families Access Resources, Support, and Information
Program Features Families are highly satisfied in all areas relating to Program Features, as the lowest scoring area was 88%. Areas of Exceptionally High Satisfaction: • Interacted with children in a positive manner. (97%) • Respected my culture. (98%) • Was provided during times that met our family's needs. (97%) • Included books, toys, outdoor and indoor play equipment and other materials that I was satisfied with. (98%)
Program Features Areas of High Satisfaction: • Had background and experience that met my expectations. (96%) • Provided an educational program that met my expectations. (95%) • Provided ways for parents to take part in the program (for example: helping in the classroom, participating in field trips, sharing a meal/snack, sharing suggestions and/or serving on a parent advisory council etc.). (88%)
Supporting the Family/Child Relationship Areas of Higher Satisfaction: • Let me know about good things my child does. (95%) • Provided services that met my child's needs. (97%) • Has helped me to be able to see how much progress my child is making. (94%)
Supporting the Family/Child Relationship Areas of Higher Satisfaction: • I have used information about my child's performance to support my child's learning and development at home. (95%) • Helped me feel more confident in my skills as a parent. (88%) • Gave me ideas of how to support my child's development at home. (88%)
Supporting the Family/Child Relationship Areas of Lower Satisfaction: • Asked me about how well the program is meeting the needs of my child. (82%) • Asked me about what is important to our family. (80%) • Explained why they recommend one practice over another and provided information on other approaches so that our family could be a partner in decision making. (81%)
Accessing Resources Area of High Satisfaction: • Helped me to access other programs and/or services for my family (for example: parent support, food stamps, WIC, library etc.). (84%)
Accessing Resources Areas of Lower Satisfaction: • Asked me what I like and don't like about the program. (74%) • Helped families get to know and support each other. (76%) • Offered parent training or information sessions. (73%)
Fiscal Year 2010-2011 • Plan is to mail surveys in the Spring (April/May 2011) • Survey will be very similar to last year. Looking at adding a few items related to community resources and making some language changes. • Web option will be available • We are investigating possibilities to offer additional options for language translation.
Things to consider • Based upon the family survey results the lower scoring are: • Helping families to know and support each other • Helping families access community resources • Asking families what they like and don’t like about the program • Offering parent training/information sessions • Asked me about how well the program is meeting the needs of my child. • Asked me about what is important to our family. • Explained why they recommend one practice over another and provided information on other approaches so that our family could be a partner in decision making.
