Multiples • Multiple: A number that can be divided exactly by another number • Examples: • Multiples of 3 are: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, … • Multiples of 4 are : 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, … • LCM: Lowest Common Multiple or Least Common Multiple is the lowest number that can be divided exactly by 2 or more numbers • Examples: • 7: 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42, 49, 56 • 8: 8, 16, 24, 32, 40, 48, 56 • LCM is 56
Factors • Factor: All the whole numbers that can be divided exactly into another number • Example: • 12: 1 x 12, 2 x 6, 3 x 4 • 12: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12 (listing) • 32: 4 x 8, 2 x 16, 1 x 32, • GCF: Greatest Common Factor • The largest whole number that can be divided by each of the numbers in a fraction or question • GCF of 12 & 32 is 4
