Studying • Reading • Set aside reading time every day • Create study guides based on reading notes • Writing • Skill required throughout college, and the rest of your life • Use the Writing Center support • Lectures • Move fast • Take note, don’t try to transcribe everything • Testing • More than memorization, analyze and apply

  4. Freedom Means Responsibility • You will experience far more freedom • But you will have far more responsibilities • Your Responsibilities • Planning • Money • Time • Health

What to Expect from College Classes • Variety • Some general requirements • Some choices there • Major classes • Usually electives within your major • Other electives • Anything you want to take • Independence • Choose your own major • More independence on daily basis • Need to manage your extra time • Feedback • Higher expectations but less feedback from instructors • Some courses only have two exams, and homework

Five Strategies for Success in College • Go to class • Some professors don’t take roll every class • But you will miss critical information if you miss class • Get organized • Purchase a planner • Create a to do list • Stay on top of it • Review daily and prepare for classes • Seek help • Tutoring, study groups, professor, other students, and other professors • Dive in • You need to write that first lousy draft in order to write an award winning novel
