Technology Leadership EDTC 6342.60 – Project 3 Campus Needs Assessment Juanita Urbano March 10, 2012
Introduction/Background Sentry Charter High School in Brownsville, Texas is an alternative public high school for students who have been unsuccessful in a traditional high school environment. The students are considered by the state as “at risk” for graduating from high school and has an Adequate Rating by the Texas Education Agency. The majority of the students are repeating freshman and sophomores. In some cases, the students are returning to school after an extended absence of one to two years due to a pregnancy, an incarceration, or a family/financial crisis.
Introduction/Background The students are tech savvy in that they like to use technology, and are comfortable reading and learning on the Internet and enjoy interactive activities, images, and videos. The Internet is viewed as an entertainment and not as a tool for learning. Technology is also the way in which the students interact comfortably with each other. In recent years, Sentry Charter High School has not had a strategic plan for using technology to enhance foundation subjects like math, science, social studies, and English.
