Creative Thinking REEMA SIDDIQI NOVEMBER 2013
BASIC IDEA My basic idea behind creative thinking is to elaborate on the importance of freeing ones mind to think out of the box for a solution, and then narrow it down to a solution for one or multiple number of problems. I was asked to compile a course for design students at a university. At first it was just a basic design structure I came up with which the students had covered already. This lead me to think about what they could be missing. It finally struck me what I had been feeling the need for in our society so much. It was to be able to think creatively for themselvesby themselves
Creativity is within us all. Some of us tend to loose it or drop the idea of trying something new, either because of being afraid of ridiculed or being called childish. • Creative thinking is for all ages and it is my belief that it should be taught in every school, university. Everywhere. Through this program people can be taught to open their minds and feel liberated to know that it is ok to think differently.
What is it? • Everyone is born creative. For example: a childs first response to a paper and pencil is to draw however and whatever direction their hands move in. Then you teach them how to make shapes: square, triangle, circle, line etc. With these they learn to make complexed sketches that represent their minds. For example the way they see a house. Similarly they are taught to write the alphabets and further small words, and further on to more complex words. With these words they go onto writing paragraphs, letters, essays, etc. Also like learning a new language.
It is the same with creative thinking. Your mind can think in so many directions. Sometimes you need to focus on one or two things or lets say, problems. To find a solution for any problem you will need to rely on past experiences, your own or someone else's, materials at hand and for whom the solution will be for. And there can be many other ways then I have listed, of course.
Why ? • The idea with creative thinking is that anyone can do it. They can feel, think. Handicapped people are of all types, but because one or two of their senses are not working they are still sensitive to all around them. Utilizing their strengths that they come to understand about themselves can lead them to being positive and forward looking. Making themselves feel alive with purpose. • Another reason for me to believe that creative thinking is important is to give oneself perspective to work from one project to the next to decrease depression and increase faith with in themselves.
How? • Find your creative side- let it live • Creative thinking – through some guidance , a path for the many paths not yet taken. • If I was not creative I would be: a) Dull b) A couch potato c) a politician
You know it ;) • You know you're creative when you feel deeply alive inside. • Creativity can transform our world and create ripples : to help others and further they help others as well and so on. • Space is where there is peace. Weather it is physical or mental. Mental space is the seed for creativity. And the need to do creative thinking is in finding mental space and peace.
