Big Question?. Will organic or inorganic fertilizer make a plant grow more? By using organic fertilizer on one plant and inorganic fertilizer on another, I will be able to determine which type of fertilizer will make the plant grow more. Hypothesis.

  1. Big Question? Will organic or inorganic fertilizer make a plant grow more? By using organic fertilizer on one plant and inorganic fertilizer on another, I will be able to determine which type of fertilizer will make the plant grow more.

  2. Hypothesis I believe organic fertilizer will make the plant grow faster and longer. I feel more natural fertilizer is better for the plant.

  3. Interesting Facts • Chemical fertilizers kill nutrients needed for the plant to grow. • Inorganic fertilizer can cost more. • Organic fertilizers contains carbon and either nitrogen, phosphorus, or potassium. • Nitrogen is the most used nutrient in plants. • Organic fertilizers help the plants ability to hold water.

  4. Experiment • a. Materials Needed: • Potting soil • 6 peat cups • Grass seeds • Organic fertilizer • Inorganic fertilizer

  5. Procedure: • Fill six peat cups with potting soil. • Place ¼ teaspoon of grass seeds in each cup. • Water each cup once a day. • Use organic fertilizer on three cups and inorganic on the other. • Measure and record growth every day. • Continue for two weeks.

  6. Observations • The inorganic plants grew first. • The inorganic plants grew taller than the organic. • It took close to one week for any of the plants to grow. • The tallest plant grew to 19cm and it was fertilized with inorganic products.

  8. Data Analysis • Yes, the experiment tested my hypothesis. • All of the potted seeds grew.

  9. Conclusion • No, my hypothesis was not correct because the inorganic fertilized seeds grew first and taller. • Next time I would measure the water given to each plant because this may effect how fast the plants grow.
