The square knot(Reef knot) • The square knot is used to tie together two ropes of equal thickness or for tying a sling or splint. Right over left and under, left over right and under, or the other way round.
The bowline • Typical use: making a fixed loop in the end of a rope. • Or as a safety knot. "The bunny goes up the hole around the tree back down where he just came and bites his tail".
The sheet bend • The sheet bend is used to tie two ropes of different diameters
The clove hitch • The clove hitch is used for securing lines running along a series of posts, belaying, starting lashings, and making a weak binding The clove hitch can be tied two ways
The tautlinehitch • The taut-line hitch is an adjustable loop knot for use on lines under tension.
Two half hitches • Can be used for tightening the ropes on a tent.
The timber hitch • The timber hitch is used for attaching ropes to tree trunks, branches, and logs, for stability when towing or lowering long items
