  2. Moving Forward - From 1607 on the British founded and maintain the Thirteen colonies, which were later called New England - By 1660s the British defeated the Dutch and maintained strong fur empire - In 1713, The French signed a treaty with Britain that gave them possession of Acadia

  3. Keep up the Fight with water - For New France to continue to compete with the British fur industry, they formed an alliance with groups such as the Huron's - Innovated new and smaller transportation methods: “Pays d’en haut” canoes - Traditional style, small (only 2 people can fit) - Narrow, meant it was faster - Light and easy to transport around waterfalls and other obstacles

  4. Keep up the fight on land • Made snow shoes of animal skin and wood • Built dog sleds: 6-12 dogs could pull furs across long distances - Built of wood and natural materials and were about 3 meters long • This cooperation led to the creation of the North West Company • North West Company and Hudson Bay company in fierce competition

  5. Great peace treaty of Montréal, 1701 • In 1701, 1300 reps of more then 40 First Nations people met in New France • Signed a treaty with New France and agreed to cooperate with First Nations • Treaty was called the ‘Great Peace of Montreal’ : this meant natives couldn’t work with English
