Water fun facts • The total amount of water in the body of an average adult is 37 liters. • Human brains are 75% water. • Human bones are 25% water. • Human blood is 83% water. • A human loses 250 ml of water a day through breathing. • You will live for less than a week without water
Water’s Role in the Body • Water is an excellent treatment for fluid retention. • It carries nutrients throughout the body. • It improves digestion. • It eliminates waste and toxins from body.
Water’s Role in Fluid Retention • Protects water if you begin to lose it or become dehydrated. • This safety water is stored in extracellular spaces causing swelling of ankles, legs and arms. • Once you restore water to body, the swelling will decrease.
Water’s Role in Eliminating Waste • Helps flush out any weight lost through exercise or diet. • Lessens the burden on the Kidneys. • Helps prevent constipation. • Helps dissolve any build up of minerals in your body.
Oxygen • Forms chemical bonds with almost every element. • Oxygen in the atmosphere, O3, protects us from UV rays. • Needed by Body in order to maintain life.
Oxygen’s Role In the Cardio. System • Is carried by Red Blood Cells(RBC) in the blood to other body systems/ to other organs. • Helps keep the heart pumping by giving oxygen to the blood supplying the heart.
Oxygen’s Role in the Respiratory System • The Respiratory System delivers oxygen to the Cardiovascular System through the Alveoli. • Where all oxygen is received.
Oxygen’s Role in Cellular Resp. • In cellular respiration oxygen is reduced from glucose, C6H12O6, which is broken down to form ATP. ATP is needed for energy in all cells in the human body.
