Why do a Passenger TDP? • Coordinated Public Transit-Human Service Transportation Planning Effort • Mandated by Congress in last year’s transportation reauthorization bill • Fits with the Federal Government Wide “United We Ride” initiative
TDP Process--Benefits to You • Improve transportation services to your clients • Create awareness of magnitude of needs being unmet • Develop new working partnerships
Passenger Transportation Development Plan (PTDP) • Updated each year • Heavily involves Human Service Agencies • Basis for getting transportation projects funded
Passenger TDP—Major Elements • Existing passenger transportation operations • Evaluation of needs for services and equipment • Available financial resources • Develop investment program
Passenger TDP Time Schedule February 1--------------Draft Passenger TDP Submitted March 1------------------Review comments completed April 1---------------------Final TDP Approved and Submitted
Next Steps MPOs and RPAs are responsible for: • Preparing the Passenger TDP • Requesting information from Transit Providers and Human Service Agencies • Fostering relationships • Getting appropriate projects funded
Next Step—cont. Iowa DOT is responsible for: • Providing assistance to/and working with MPOs, RPAs, Transit Systems and Human Service Agencies • Approving the Passenger TDPs • Pro-actively promoting coordination of transportation services
Next Step—cont. Human Service Agencies are responsible for: • Actively participating in planning process • Provides necessary information • Strengthening relationship with MPOs, RPAs, and Iowa DOT • Assisting in pursuit of additional resources as needed.
