  1. Scholarship Basics You have the DREAM. We have the resources. www.scholarshipsaz.org

  2. Read the Application and BEWARE of all Requirements • Most scholarships require transcripts and letters of recommendation. • Neatness counts! Use black ink and write as neatly as possible. • Answer all questions asked. • Make COPIES of all scholarship documentation for your own records.

  3. Letters of Recommendation • Choose a person that can provide good references about • you. • Provide the person with enough information about you. A • resume would be perfect. • Provide the person with a copy of the scholarship so they • are aware of the requirements. • Always give the person at least two weeks to write the • letter. • If you are applying for more than two scholarships at a • time, plan ahead and start providing the information early.

  4. Answer All Questions!! Many times scholarships will ask questions that do not apply to you. In that case, you do not leave it blank or write n/a. Sample Topic & Question: If you have no work experience because you are a full time student or any other reason, describe that activity and how it takes the place of work.

  5. Sample Answer 1 Living with a large family of seven people including my great grandma produces many responsibilities. Without rules or responsibilities, a big family can become a big mess. My primary responsibility in my house is taking care of my studio area and my room since it is where I spend most of my time.

  6. Sample Answer 2 In average, school work takes me about six hours a day. With many things to handle each week, I am still accountable of my house duties which I do not leave unattended; rather I work them into my schedule to live more relaxed in the middle of a big house hold.

  7. Make Copies! Scholarships for the most part ask similar questions. Having copies of a previous Personal Statement or any important information will save you time in you next application. BUT… Before submitting a previous used document to a new application make sure you change every reference of the old scholarship.
