  3. The San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) Juvenile Court and Community Schools (JCCS) Programs consist of three types of schools. San Diego County Office of Education JCCS East Mesa Leadership Site

  4. Juvenile Court Schools, County Community Schools, and Community Day Schools. San Diego County Office of Education JCCS East Mesa Leadership Site

  5. East Mesa School is one of the Juvenile Court Schools. It is located within the East Mesa Juvenile Detention Facility. San Diego County Office of Education JCCS East Mesa Leadership Site

  6. We are a western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accredited school that provides students with standards-based education 245 day a year. San Diego County Office of Education JCCS East Mesa Leadership Site

  8. JCCS ethnicity is 52% Latino, 19% Black, 24% White, 2% Asian, 1% Filipino, 1% Pacific Islanders and 1% Native American. San Diego County Office of Education JCCS East Mesa Leadership Site

  9. Our staff is composed of fully credentialed general and special education teachers San Diego County Office of Education JCCS East Mesa Leadership Site

  10. Each classroom has a 20 to 1 student teacher ratio with the additional support of a Teacher Assistant and Special Education Staff. San Diego County Office of Education JCCS East Mesa Leadership Site

  11. Every classroom has Dell computers, internet access, Smartboards, and computer projection systems. San Diego County Office of Education JCCS East Mesa Leadership Site

  12. There are approximately 65 special education students. They represent approximately 30% of the total population. San Diego County Office of Education JCCS East Mesa Leadership Site

  13. Students receive services through the resource specialist program (RSP) and special day class (SDC) program. San Diego County Office of Education JCCS East Mesa Leadership Site

  14. 30% of the students are RSP and 60% are SDC. 50% of the students are identified as having emotional disturbance,30% specific learning disability, 17% other health impaired and 3% in speech, autistic or traumatic brain injury.   15. East Mesa School hours are from 7:55 AM -2:15 PM. The course of study includes Language Arts, Mathematics, Physical Education, and Social Studies. San Diego County Office of Education JCCS East Mesa Leadership Site

  17. Co-Teaching is a research based service delivery model which has been implemented after training in the area of in-class collaboration by general and special educators. San Diego County Office of Education JCCS East Mesa Leadership Site

  18. Instructional strategies include active standards based teaching using state approved curricula. Holt Literature, High Point, and Prentice Hall are some of the textbooks. San Diego County Office of Education JCCS East Mesa Leadership Site

  19. East Mesa is accountable to state accountability measures of the Academic Performance Index (API) and Alternative Schools of Accountability Model (ASAM). San Diego County Office of Education JCCS East Mesa Leadership Site

  35. This project involves developing a positive co-teaching model using collaboration between general education and special education for other programs across California. San Diego County Office of Education JCCS East Mesa Leadership Site

  36. East Mesa School Leadership Site plans on continuing to visit and learn from other sites educating youth with disabilities in the correctional system. San Diego County Office of Education JCCS East Mesa Leadership Site
