Library Portal • Project of our Digital Library Initiatives 1998 - 2003 • Tender awarded on October 2003 • Launched in August 2004 • Use BEA WebLogic 8.1 portal platform
Aim of the Library Portal Integrate a host of online services and digital resources to improve user browsing experience and to provide personalization capabilities
Main Features • Single sign-on, from the library portal homepage, seamlessly authenticates users to library services such as myLINC, library proxy, and electronic forms
Main Features • Displays information from the users’ library accounts such as library notices, status of reservation requests, or checked-out items • Incorporates users’ particulars into the e-forms saving users’ time
Main Features 4. Allows users to indicate the information they prefer to view. User profile is made by selecting from a list of subject categories. Upon logging in, only the News, Events, New Book Arrivals and eResources which match their profile will be displayed
E-Forms Based on the users’ login id, only forms relevant to their membership category will be displayed
E-Forms (Document Delivery) • E-form is pre-populated with user’s particulars
Phase 2 of Library Portal • Single sign-on to library portal upon login to campus network (Dec 2004) • Mobile portal, including mobile library catalog AirLINC, for pocket PC (Dec 2004) • Handle Chinese & Japanese characters (2005) • Preference setting by individual journal titles in addition to by subject areas (2005) • Incorporate routing for electronic forms (2005) • An interface to search all our electronic resources by title keyword (2005)
Chinese OverseasHistorical Database • The NUS Libraries Collection • Collections from other libraries, archives, government and private organizations as well as individuals in Southeast Asia • Covers documents written in Chinese, vernacular & other languages This project plans to include primary and secondary historical documents from two sources
