This research aims to better understand the underlying causes and mechanisms of brain diseases by examining metabolic, humoral, and inflammatory factors. By investigating specific nomenclature and identifying different brain syndromes, such as the Vascular Neuroexecutive Syndrome and TMF subsyndromes, we can develop targeted interventions. Animal models will be explored for studying mood, cognition, and physical function, while also investigating the mechanisms by which exercise and physical activity impact these domains. Expansion of existing research, intervention trials, and high-risk group studies will provide valuable insights into overall brain health.
E N D
Gaps • Better define underlying etiologies and pathophysiology • More specific nomenclature • Multimodal brain syndrome, • TMF: subsyndromes • Vascular Neuroexecutive Syndrome • Animal models, esp for mood and physical function • Mechanisms by which exercise and physical activity affect mood, cognition and physical function
Research Priorities • Expand existing basic, epi, and intervention studies to examine all three domains • Animal models of TMF and methods for studying mood and physical function in animal models • Mechanisms of exercise and physical activity effects
Research Opportunities • Effects of function promoting anabolic therapies on cognition and mood in clinical trials • Effects of immune modulation on cognition, mood and physical function • Human intervention trials • Multimodality interventions • High risk groups • Include all three domains as outcomes
