Transformative PD • In additive learning, the goal is to acquire new skills and incorporate them into existing repertoire. The goal of transformative learning is to change deeply held beliefs, knowledge, and habits of practice. Additive learning alone will not suffice when new ways of thinking about something are also needed. (Thompson & Zeuli, 1999) • Transformative learning focuses more on making shifts in assumptions and beliefs and helping learners understand why a new approach might be necessary. Education today is moving toward integrating both transformative and additive learning. (Kaser, Mundry, Stiles, & Locks-Horsley, 2002)
