  4. Lung Conditions Granulomatous (multiple granulomas or small areas of inflammation in tissue) Condition: • sarcoidosis sarc (flesh), -oid (resemble), -osis (condition) Infectious Disease: • tuberculosis (TB) tubercul(a little swelling)

  5. Lung Conditions Granulomatous condition • atelectasis atel (imperfect), -ectasis (dilation, expansion) • (pleurisy) or pleuritis or pleurodyniapleur/o (pleura) • pneumonia or pneumonitis pneumon (lung, air) • pneumothorax pneum/o (air), thorax (chest)

Pneumoconiosis Pneumoconiosis refers to a range of diseases that are caused by the inhalation of a range of organic and non-organic dusts which are then retained in the lungs, such as: • anthracosisanthrac (coal) • mesothelioma mes/o (middle), thel/i(nipple) • siderosis (iron dust), silicosis (quartz/silica dust), berylliosis (beryllium), chalicosis (stone dust)

  7. Lung Sounds • wheeze • rale • rhonchus rhonch(snore), -us (pertaining to) • stridor (in croup or obstruction)
