Business Concepts • Management-The process of dealing with or controlling things or people • Marketing-The action or business of promoting and selling products or services. • Consumer Relations-are comprised of planned programs and are significant to professional organizations to achieve consumer satisfaction.
Why these concepts? • Helps to control the environment • Helps to guide learning outcomes. • Students will be excited for your class. • Helps to accomplish districts Vision and Mission • Preparation for the real world.
Management • Team Charter-Management Tool • Break students into groups • Manager reports to teacher. • Positions can include: Manager, Supervisor, Secretary
Management • Timesheet • Students sign in when tardy. • Round up by 5 minutes. • Makes up time in department lead detention. • Could be used for times when students are not using time wisely. (Example: On cell phone, sleeping, etc.)
Management • Pink Slip • Form of properly documenting concerning behaviors. • Form of PBIS • Meet with department to discuss common students with issue. • Thumbs Up Sign- Music Management Tool
Thumbs up Sign You may quietly use your headphones to listen to music. Rules: -No YouTube -No Cell Phones
Thumbs Down Sign You may not listen to music at this time. I need your undivided attention.
Marketing • Why is marketing important? • Give students opportunities to market themselves. • Public Speaking • Resume Building Activities • Give feedback and recognitions
Marketing • Display students’ thoughts. • Give students index cards • Have them write something they learned from the objective or class period. • Display outside of your classroom. • Display students’ work. • Other students can learn what you are doing by walking by.
Consumer Relations • Build relationships with parents and students. • Have students write you a letter. • Reward Students • Tickets, create a chart, student of the week, victory chants, class pass, etc. • Invite administration, counselors, and the community as guest speakers
Communication Skills • Listen carefully • Communicate regularly • Be clear and concise • Know your student and parents

Group Activity • We will use the team charter model. • Groups of 3-4 people • Take assigned section and answer the following question. • What requirements from employers are similar to those in the classroom? • List 2-3 of your rules that you see in the employee handbook. • Why is it important to have and maintain these standards in the classroom? • We will share some responses
