God’s Answer To Honest Doubt John 20:24-31
Two Sources of Doubt • Head or Reason • Contrary to what is “reasonable” • Heart or Emotion • Based on feelings that may be in complete contrast to known facts • Example of spouse saying, “You don’t love me anymore!”
Head or Reason • Doubt when we can’t understand through “natural” processes • Many doubt miracles because they haven’t seen or experienced such • Nathaniel – John 1:43-46a • Thomas – John 20:24,25 • Had seen Jesus die & buried
Heart or Emotion • John the baptist – Matt. 11:2, 3 • Note what he said in John 1:29-34 • That was based on evidence (reason) • His doubt now expressed during emotional depression
Answer to Doubt • Same in all cases • To Nathaniel – John 1:46-49 • “Come and see” • To Thomas – John 20:27-29 • To John – Matthew 11:4-6
What About You? • Do you doubt: • Jesus being Son of God? • His church existing today? • People being “Christians” only? • Possibility of unity of all believers? COME and SEE!
What Must I Do To Be Saved? • Hear the gospel (Rom. 10:17) • Believe Jesus is Christ (Acts 8:37) • Repent of your sins (Luke 13:3) • Confess faith in Jesus (Mt. 10:32) • Baptized for remission of sins (Acts 2:38) • Be faithful unto death (Rev. 2:10)
