Geography • The country is slightly smaller than the state of Montana • The Congo River forms most of the eastern boundary of Congo. • Flooding from the river is a natural hazard and wreaks havoc on agriculture and housing. • 70% of the people of Congo live in Brazzaville, the capital.
The Republic of Congo • Congo (Brazzaville) is often confused with its much larger neighbor, Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly known as Zaire), which borders the country to the east. • Located on the west coast of Africa, Congo was formerly known as French Equatorial Africa. • Civil war has been raging in this country for years. Now at peace, the people are suffering from the effects of war.
