  1. Objective 10.01:RECOGNIZE career opportunities in the housing industry

  2. Appraiser • Assesses the value of buildings and property • Need a 2-year degree to assess residential property and a 4-year degree to assess commercial property • Must be licensed or certified

  3. Real Estate Agent/Broker • Matches buyers with properties for sale, rent, or lease • Must pass a test and be licensed

  4. Interior Designer • Plans and supervises the design and arrangement of building interiors and furnishings • Must be creative and have a knowledge of color, design, and furnishings • Requires a 4 or 5 year college degree • Professional standards are set by the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID)

  5. Furniture Designer • Designs furniture based on current trends and historical influences • May attend a 2 or 4 year school or work freelance

  6. Architect • Designs buildings to satisfy people’s needs • Ensures correct materials are used by the contractor and builders and that the proper codes are met • Requires a 5-year college degree • Professional standards set by the American Institute of Architects (AIA).

  7. Contractor • Works with the architect and designer; supervises the building of a project • Will hire sub-contractors for trade specific jobs such as plumbing, masonry, painting, etc.

  8. Carpenter • Constructs the framework of a building, usually working with wood; also install the windows, doors, cabinets, stairs, and paneling. • Will receive on the job training • May attend a trade school

  9. Trade Specific Industries • Electrician – install wiring and repair systems • Masons – lay foundations of concrete • Plumbers – install pipe systems to carry water, steam, and gas.
