  2. Terrorism • The use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims and/or spread of beliefs.

Terrorism in the Middle East • Muslim extremists in the Middle East are using violence to wage a holy war called a “Jihad” against the Western World and non-Islamic peoples in the region. • Through use of guerilla warfare, suicide bombings, hostage situations and torture these militants have gained a world wide reputation that has gone as far as to instigate bloody wars in the region with significant collateral damage.

  4. The UN and Terrorism • With the United States being a permanent member of the UN’s Security Council, the War on Terror has been a significant topic amongst the members. The UN denounces the terroristic actions in the region and contains members currently aiding the fight the U.S.. However, the only peace keeping force that has been sent to the region since the first Gulf War was a group of supervisors to oversee the Syrian Civil War.

  5. The Future • Although there has been progress made in toppling terrorist regimes and combatting the extremists, the future of the region looks grim. There are always going to be Islamic extremists whose ignorance will drive them to continue taking innocent lives.
