  3. Types of Nouns Concrete Abstract Common Proper Compound Collective

  4. Concrete Noun- is a person, place or thing that you can actually see, touch, taste, hear, or smell Examples Hat, fur, newspaper, children, bell

  5. Abstract Noun- names a quality, a condition, or an idea Example Love, anger, liberty, success, hope

  6. Common noun -names ANY person, place, or thing Example worker, state, document, car, girl

  7. Proper Noun- names a PARTICULAR person, place or thing Example Michigan, Bill of Rights, Klein High School

  8. Compound noun- made up of more than one word Can be three different forms: One word, hyphenated, or two words Example One word-airstrip, viewpoint Hyphenated- brother-in-law Two words- golf course, living room

  9. Collective Noun- names a group of people or things Example Band, class, family, league, team, nation

  10. Practice Your Skills Turn to page L7 Read the paragraph in blue On a LOOSE LEAF sheet of paper, list all the nouns. There are 40, so don’t stop until you have 40!
