What is NET+ Internet2 NET+ program provides access to a portfolio of "above the network" cloud-based services. The Internet2 NET+ Services program provides Internet2 members and other participating institutions access to an ever-growing catalog of cloud-based services designed or tailored specifically for the research and education community. These services are all delivered over the Internet2 high performance network and leverage the secure and privacy-preserving InCommon federated identity management services. http://www.internet2.edu/cloud-services/
How does service become part of NET+ A University or Universities see the need and “Sponsor” a service into NET+. This is known as the Inquiry Phase. After this, the vendor and sponsor go through a series of “services phases” for it to become a NET+ service
Service Phases • Inquiry • Evaluation • Service Validation • Early Adopter • General Availability • Sunset Source: http://www.internet2.edu/netplus/service-phases.html
Authentication In general, the intent is to have NET+ service providers become part of the InCommon Community. This means that for Penn State, NET+ services will use Shibboleth and WebAccess.
NET+ locally • Jeff Reel, Program Manager • Jeff is working with Purchasing and the ITS BRM group to intake services into Penn State’s NET+ offerings.
NET+ Summary • Aastra (cloud based SIP voice service) -- TNS evaluating use where location not otherwise served by TNS network. • Acquia (Drupal Content Mangement) -- Service Validation • AWS -- Early Adopter • Blackboard -- evaluating whether it makes sense for Penn State to adopt Bb NET+ offering • Blue Jeans (Voice/Video Collab) -- Commonwealth College evaluation • Box -- General Availability, agreement signed
NET+ Summary • CrashPlan (network backup) -- evaluating capability. A proposal will be made to ITLC in 4Q2014. • Duo Secure (2-factor authentication) -- NET+ general availability -- ITS pilot ongoing. • Splunk -- (System logging/log analysis tool) -- Already used by some areas under a variety of license agreements. NET+ offering appears to be significantly less expensive. We may consolidate what we can under a Penn State service offering (see me!)
