1. CLASSIFICATION: AP-012-089 • 2. TITLE OF REFERRAL: Music Major-Elevation of Music Education and Music Industry Studies from Emphases to Options; Discontinue Interdisciplinary Music Emphasis. • 3. BACKGROUND:The Music Department proposes to elevate both the Music Education emphasis and the Music Industry Studies emphasis to options. The Department also requests to discontinue the Interdisciplinary Music emphasis. • 4. RECOMMENDED RESOURCES:Susan Burns,Laura Chase, Charles Gossett, Iris Levine, Steve McCauly, Bill Morse, Dale Turner, Arthur Winer, Cheryl Wyrick,
5. DISCUSSION: As emphases, the Music Industry Studies and Music Education have proven their viability. Elevating them to options serves the students’ needs and allows the department to better track and advise their students. Deleting the Interdisciplinary Music emphasis poses no problems since currently there are no students enrolled in it. 6. RECOMMENDATION: The Academic Programs Committee recommends approval of the referral Ap- 012-089 Music Major-Elevation of Music Education and Music Industry Studies from Emphases to Options; Discontinue Interdisciplinary Music Emphasis.
