Topic Sentence 1 – New Technology • Newer Technology created in the last 50 years have led to an increase in fish caught • Bigger nets have led to bigger catches • Bigger Boats have led to more storage space for fish and less back and forth time
Topic Sentence 2 - Pay • 70% is what a fisherman makes to the average American • 72,000 fishing jobs have been lost in the pacific alone • Fish caught rose from 18 million to 80 million tons in 30 years just to make average pay
Topic Sentence 3 – Unwanted Catch • 10% of all fish caught are unwanted (Dolphins, Sea Turtles, etc.) • Millions of sharks are killed each year JUST for their fins • Long line fishing kills sea turtles because the Sea Turtles see the bait as jelly fish
Topic Sentence 4 - Ratio • Fish caught rose from 18 million to 80 million tons in 30 years • The Anchoveta fishery collapsed due to warm water and too little breeding stock • Small fish caught are made into pet food • Overfishing corrupts the Food Chain killing predators to lack of food.
