  10. What are the Wells ELECTIVES? [1 period] • SEMESTER • Exploratory Art & Exploratory Music • OR • Exploratory Art & Exploratory Theatre • OR • Exploratory Music & Exploratory Theatre FULL YEAR • Beginner Band (Instrument Selection Interview, instrument rental/purchase & other fees required) OR • Choir (Fees & supplies required) Seats are filled by random computer selection

  11. CHOIR Introduction to choral music (no previous musical training/experience necessary); Learn to read & perform in unison, & in two- & three-part harmony; Learn to sing as a choral member & in a performing group; Attend before/after school rehearsals & performances as required.

  12. FAPA Exploratory Music Study basic music theory, history, and appreciation; Study vocal and instrumental works, creating an interest in the various music areas.

  13. BAND • Learn to play an instrument and read music • No previous music training or experience is necessary

  14. Band Information • You are required to rent or purchase an instrument. • Instrument choices: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Alto Sax, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Baritone, Tuba, Percussion (limited availability). • Instrument selection will happen in May through your child’s elementary music class and further instructions sent home. Look for this information from your child. • You are required to purchase certain additional supplies. A list will be provided at a parent meeting on May 31, 2012, from 6pm to 7:30pm at Wells. • Do not purchase anything until you receive this information at the parent meeting.

  15. Art Study the elements of art, art history, art appreciation, and a brief introduction to drawing, painting, and sculpture.

  16. FAPA EXPLORATORY ART

  17. ART PRODUCTION • Encourages expression; • Provides an opportunity for creative problem solving; • Introduces tools, skills and techniques; • Helps develop personal ideas.

  18. ART HISTORY • Builds background; • Introduces other cultures & time periods; • Students learn to recognize artwork from groups or individual artists; • Teaches about outside influences on art such as: literature, patronage, government, religion, and technology.

ART CRITICISM/ANALYSIS • Students learn to compare and contrast images; • Encourages students to communicate effectively in talking about their work and the work of others; • Students learn the process of criticism by becoming proficient in: description, analysis, interpretation and judgment…skills which serve them well in all academic areas.

  20. AESTHETIC AWARENESS • Students become aware of the art of the beautiful; • Develop an understanding that functional objects can also be considered art; • Generation of a definition of what art is; • Students debate over the elements of art and the principles of design.

  24. FAPA Exploratory Theatre Study imitative movement, sensory awareness, and creative dialogue.

GT  Pre-AP Guidelines • Students with GT designation from elementary school will be placed in Pre-AP courses; • Students without GT designation from elementary are eligible for Pre-AP consideration if: • 2,300 or comparable score on TAKS/STAAR or equivalent state assessment; and • 85 or higher average in the course(s) for which Pre-AP placement is sought.

  26. GT  Pre-AP Expectations • Pre-AP students are expected to maintain an 80 or higher average in the Pre-AP course(s); • Pre-AP students are expected to consistently exemplify THE WELLS WAY principles.
