Green Farming Kenya Program Information Introduction Green Farming Kenya is a program for Dutch suppliers to the horticultural sector that are active in the export of goods, services, knowledge and advisory on the Kenyan market. The aim of the program is to promote the export of Dutch products to Kenya’s horticultural sector and improve the Dutch market share by collective actions. Besides that, also intensifying the co-operation between Dutch members and Kenyan companies and organisations in the areas of research, development and production is part of the goal. AVAG, a representative of joint Dutch horticultural suppliers and DLV Plant, will coordinate the program for the coming three years. The Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation will support the program. In addition to the cluster of businesses that are a member of Green Farming Kenya, also Wageningen University and Research Centre supports the program and is actively involved on the level of research and knowledge transfer. • Program pillars • The two main pillars of the program are • Holland Branding: demonstration of the possibilities and advantages of the implementation of a higher level of technology in products and services from The Netherlands in Kenya • Develop sustainable production systems in close cooperation with local partners that are economically and environmentally sustainable, that meet CSR demands and are custom made for the Kenyan sector • Program content • Green Farming Kenya has a budget to organise a broad spectrum of activities to promote Dutch horticultural suppliers on the Kenyan market during the period July 2010 to July 2013. The activities include: • Information studies, focussing on detailed market research, technology, logistics, juridical, fiscal or environmental topics • Collective representation at exhibitions and joint visits in both The Netherlands and Kenya • Seminars for Dutch or Kenyan parties on various topics relating to the program • Hiring of local advisors • Demonstration project in which the possibilities and advantages of the implementation of a higher level of technology in products and services from The Netherlands can be demonstrated in Kenya • Incoming and outgoing trade missions for Kenyan or Dutch parties During the course of the program projects on the level of government-to-government will be initiated as well. The projects will be based on the input of members companies. The most important components of the projects on G-to-G level will be economic diplomacy, knowledge transfer, capacity building and bilateral cooperation. Themes within the program All activities on the levels of business-to-business and government-to-government will be corresponding to one or more of the 5 main themes of the program. Groups of members can jointly become active on a certain theme that fits their business profiles. The 5 main themes are: WaterIrrigation, recirculation, water storage and treatment, substrate cultivation Crop ManagementCultivation systems, crop protection, IPM, starting material (young plants, seeds) Climate and EnergyClimate management, sustainable energy (solar, biomass, geothermal) Post Harvest and LogisticsPost harvest procedures and treatments, import & export, transport and ICT Research and Knowledge TransferStudies, seminars, capacity building, joint research and testing • Become a member of Green Farming Kenya • Below you find an overview of what the program has to offer to you and your company: • Members are informed on all program activities and can join in the activities of interest to their company • As a member you will be informed on activities and developments related to the Kenyan horticultural sector • The program network enables easy contact with Kenyan companies and (governmental) organisations • Membership allows you to the closed parts of the website that contains member information and contact details. After processing your membership form the password will be provided at the moment the closed modules are online. • Members can bring their inputs to the program forward during member meetings. For each program year a new work plan is elaborated incorporating the ideas and suggestions of the members • Companies that become members will be promoted at nearly all program activies. Promotion will be realized through the website with direct links to member’s websites, and by the member leaflets with company name, contact details, logo and short profiles during presentations, seminars, exhibition visits and trade missions • As a Dutch or Kenyan company you can become a member of Green Farming Kenya by filling in the membership form. Also companies registered in other countries can join when the company fits within the program. Below you find the most important facts for membership: • The membership fee for Year 1 is € 2.500 • A membership will be prolonged automatically until the end of the program, but members can stop their subscription on a yearly basis, three months before the start of the next program year • The program years of Green Farming Kenya run from July 1st to July 1st, starting in 2010 and ending in 2013. • By filling in the membership form and contribution payment a member automatically complies with the membership conditions. These conditions will be described in detail in a code of co operation.
